Why did you choose the field of audiology?
Klutz: Once I learned about the hearing system and the natural mechanism that is so tiny but so powerful, I was hooked. We often take our hearing for granted. I knew that I wanted to be in a position where I could educate and help people understand how amazing the hearing system is, as well as help them reconnect with their world if they had hearing loss.
What do you enjoy most about your current position?
Klutz: As an audiologist in a product management position, I have the ability to impact the product development and refine the outcome and experience a patient has, thanks to my own clinical experience. I also get to learn new things that I didn’t as an audiologist that I need to do in a product management role.
What advice do you have for other audiologists?
Klutz: Don’t limit yourself — if you want to experience something new as an audiologist, seek it out and go for it! If you want to be in the clinic, manufacturing, research — take the chance and find the opportunity to experience it.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Klutz: I love to be active — run, bike, kayak, hike — if it can done outdoors, I’m all in!
What is your favorite sound?
Klutz: The sound of wind blowing through pine trees. It reminds me of Maine, of home and of my childhood.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
Klutz: I’m actually a quiet person and more of an old soul than you may think when you meet me.
