Welcome New Member of PARC
David Taylor recently joined the Phonak Audiologist Research Center (PARC) as a 4th year Audiology Extern. Get to know more about our latest team member.
Meet: David Taylor
Education: Columbia College Chicago, BA in Audio Arts & Acoustics; currently attending Rush University for Au.D.
Why did you choose the field of audiology?
I first heard about the field of audiology during an undergraduate course based on the science of hearing. The anatomy and physiology that was covered in this course was very intriguing to me.
After learning more about audiology, it seemed to be a valuable investment that would come with a rewarding sense of accomplishment daily. The scope of practice of an audiologist appealed to me as well, as there are so many different career paths within the industry that an audiologist can take advantage of.
What are you looking forward to as a PARC team member?
I am most looking forward to collaborating with some very brilliant minds here at PARC, and the exchange of ideas and collaboration that comes with such an environment. I am also looking forward to being able to share the knowledge I have, specifically coming from a background of audio and acoustics, and being able to express that knowledge in new and exciting ways.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy getting my hands dirty — anything from working on motorcycles and cars to DIY projects around the house. I enjoy the satisfaction of fixing something or learning a new skill, even if it means breaking other things in the process.
What sound makes you happy?
I love the beginning of spring, particularly waking up to birds chirping and a gentle breeze blowing outside the window. However, I would say nothing beats the sound of a carbureted V-twin downshifting through a tunnel.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
I can ride a unicycle.
